Stage 2 & 3 Sustainability
Learning Objectives
Calmsley Hill provides a range of thematic based HSIE/Science and Technology integrated excursions for Primary students studying Stage 2 & 3. The all day programs meet an array of syllabus outcomes.
In both Stage 2 & 3 there are three different tours you can choose from, please see below for a description of each option.
- Endangered and Unique: students follow existing marked trail up ridge to rainforest area. There students will observe the endangered vegetation community of the Western Sydney Dry Rainforest as well as gaining knowledge about animals that once lived on the ridge. Observe contrasting outlooks of peri-urban landscape.
- Sustainable Food: Students follow a trail around the permaculture garden understanding the role of the worm farm and compost bins. Students will observe the history of farm equipment with our machinery on site and investigate different ways farmers worked the land. Students then walk over to M7 paddock to observe urban farming landscape and discuss the importance and role of farming to our society. Students will discuss the different uses of the land, including Aboriginal history on the site.
- A Big Sydney: students follow existing marked trail, observing/noting city landscape, peri-urban fringe, electricity towers, water canal, gas pipeline, M7, smoke stacks from waste dump.
